Ambassadors in Sports began in 1990 with the aim to partner with churches and Christian groups to develop grass roots football ministry and now is active in over 14 countries around the world. AIS has a commitment to the highest standards of accountability and respect with a pursuance of excellence they strive to equip young people in all walks of life with a goal of “A Ball, A Bible and A Briefcase”.
In April of 2010, Shoes to Share received a request from Rich Mears, Director of AIS for 1,000 pairs of soccer cleats for Haiti, and within the month the cleats were on their way to Port of Prince, Haiti. Shortly after, the cleats arrived in Haiti and during the journey to Jean Rabel where the cleats were being distributed, Rich and his friend Debreus encountered some issues with a few unfriendly thieves, who robbed them and shot Rich. Rich was rescued and driven to the UN and flown back home to the United States the next day. The good news is that Rich is doing great AND the kids received the cleats in time for the World Cup.
In August, Rich returned to Haiti, despite the unfortunate scare & injuries he suffered and continues Praising God! Enjoy the photo of some of the kids trying on their new cleats!
